Fake news

➤ Any website gets a lot of revenue from ads and running a website without it is a waste of business. However, one study found that misinformed websites were making millions of dollars.

Experts on the subject say that the entire industry needs to come to a compromise rather than creating any special rules to prevent this. A new study published in the Global Disinformation Index (GDI) in London has revealed new information.

The study says that more than 20,000 websites with fake information are making $235 million a year. According to program director of GDI, misinformation is being spread through a variety of artists by offering different packages.

The financial package is also one of them. Surprisingly, controversial websites have long been active because of advertising revenue. Former US President Donald Trump's former aide Steve Benn released a video earlier this year saying that advertising is the main source of income. Without it they would not be able to survive.

Wild Wild West:

The software is used to buy and sell advertising slots from the Internet for digital advertising. This technology is called programmatic advertising. According to one agency, in 2019, two-thirds of the Internet advertisements were delivered through this software.

These two thirds of the ads were valued at $ 84 billion. This type of advertising is likely to increase in 2020. Advertising companies do not go directly to websites. Ad exchanges between brokers and websites act as brokers. They serve ads according to programmatic advertising data, and because of the lack of transparency in the entire system, supervisors in the industry call it the Wild Wild West.

The problem needs to be resolved:

Germany has now intensified efforts to curb the spread of hate speech and online violence. However, due to concerns about freedom of expression, legislation has been made controversial to prevent misinformation from reaching the masses.

The German government is considering what steps to take on this issue. The government is discussing whether it should be held legally liable for advertising operators and other social media platform operators and is seeking expert advice. However, people believe that doing so could not solve the problem.

According to program director of GDI, only one cross-platform was sufficient to reduce the spread of misinformation and thus prevent the financial assistance of misleading websites. Will remain. They feel that the industry needs a cross platform to solve this problem. This is a problem for the whole industry and it should be resolved at all.
